Each piece is thrown on a potter's wheel using the same techniques practiced here for over 400 years.* Within Seto ware, pieces made in the Akazu district are known as Akazu-yaki. Work of this quality, produced with traditional techniques, is certified as a national traditional craft of Japan.* The Rokubei Kiln is among the most representative kilns of Seto Akazu-yaki. It is also known for the matcha tea bowls used at the Japan Pavilion of Expo Milano, and for pieces presented as gifts to delegates of the Ise-Shima Summit.* Oribe (織部) is a lustrous green glaze named after Furuta Oribe, a senior disciple of the tea master Sen no Rikyu, who favored it. The glaze pools in the recessed areas of the piece, deepening into a rich green that gives the surface remarkable depth and character.* Kannyu (crackle glaze) refers to the fine cracks that form in the glaze as the piece cools after firing. These are a feature of the glaze surface, not damage to the clay body. As the piece is used day to day, the pattern gradually shifts and deepens — a process Japanese collectors describe as "nurturing the landscape" of the vessel, and one reason such pieces become so personal over time. Please review all photographs, and message us with any questions.Note: As each piece is handmade, the item you receive may vary slightly from the photographs.■ Shipping* Sent via FedEx or Japan Post, with tracking.* Handling time: Your item will be shipped within 10 business days of confirmed payment.* Expedited shipping (FedEx or similar) is available for an additional USD 5–10.
