DescriptionAuthentic 1945–1948 Dunlap No. 3738 smoothing bench plane, manufactured in the USA by Millers Falls for Sears. This is the No. 4-size Dunlap plane, equivalent to the Millers Falls No. 9, and features the desirable 4DBB body marking identifying its Millers Falls manufacture. This example retains its wonderful untouched workshop character, including the original-style wood knob and rear tote, red-painted frog, aged metal surfaces and decades of honest tool wear. I have intentionally not restored or aggressively cleaned the plane, preserving its vintage patina and collector appeal.Condition NotesGood vintage condition with significant authentic patina and signs of decades of workshop use, including oxidation/surface rust, scratches, discoloration, paint remnants and wear to the metal and wooden components. Red finish remains visible on the frog. No restoration has been attempted. The components disassemble and reassemble as expected, but the plane has not been sharpened, tuned or tested on wood for cutting performance, so it is being sold as a vintage collectible/tool in its current condition. Please review all photos carefully, particularly the identifying markings and sole.A great piece for a vintage woodworking tool collection, workshop display, or restoration/use by someone familiar with traditional hand planes.
