Condition: Pre owned vintage back saw with Warranted Superior medallion, complete tooth line and original age patinaVintage Warranted Superior back saw measuring approximately 17 inches overall with a 12 inch steel blade, approximately 4 inch blade depth and 12 teeth per inch.This traditional backsaw features a rigid reinforced metal spine along the upper edge of the blade. The stiffened back helps prevent the relatively thin saw plate from flexing during use, making this style of saw well suited to controlled woodworking cuts, joinery, tenons, miter work and other applications where a straighter and more precise cut is desired.The saw retains its original style closed wood handle with three visible fasteners including a round Warranted Superior medallion. The blade measures approximately 12 inches long by approximately 4 inches wide and has approximately 12 teeth per inch. No missing teeth were observed along the cutting edge.The configuration of this saw is notably similar to documented Disston Keystone K1 backsaws, which were produced with 12 inch blades, 12 TPI tooth patterns, wood handles and Warranted Superior medallions. Some surviving examples have been positively identified through a faint Keystone K1 and Disston blade etch. No readable blade etching is visible on this example, however, and Warranted Superior medallions were used by multiple American saw manufacturers. For that reason, this saw is not being definitively attributed to Disston.Warranted Superior was historically used as a quality designation on secondary and private label saws rather than representing one single manufacturer. Major American saw makers including Disston and others supplied saws carrying these generic medallions for hardware stores and secondary product lines.The saw remains in honest unrestored vintage condition. The blade and reinforced back display dark age patina, oxidation, staining and surface wear. The wood handle retains remnants of an older amber or yellow finish with substantial finish loss, rubbing, scratches and discoloration from age and use.
