"MERIT" was a premium proprietary trademark used exclusively by Sears, Roebuck & Co. during the late 1930s and 1940s.• Sears contracted the legendary North Brothers factory to manufacture their signature spiral drivers under the Merit name. This tool was sold directly through vintage Sears retail stores and catalogs, but shipped in the iconic, original North Bros. green box.• Because it carries the original North Bros. company stamping rather than Stanley (who fully integrated the line after purchasing North Bros. in 1946), this piece is a highly desirable, verified pre-1946 crossover collectible for both Sears/Craftsman history buffs and "Yankee" tool purists.Condition & Inventory Details:• Original Box Included: Housed in its original 1940s green-wrapped cardboard box featuring the striking yellow and orange "Yankee" end label. The box is structurally sound with honest shelf wear and aging.• The Screwdriver: In superb vintage condition. The bright nickel-plated finish shines beautifully with only minimal cosmetic wear. The spiral pump mechanism, 3-way directional ratchet switch (Right, Left, Fixed), and chuck collar lock all actuate smoothly and function exactly as intended.• Accessories Included: Includes two (2) vintage flathead screwdriver bits that fit the proprietary Yankee notched chuck system.A beautiful, display-ready addition for any serious antique American tool collection or traditional woodworking shop.
