View Rare Factory Second! Vintage Chapin-Stephens Co. №. 36 6” Caliper Rule with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. Own a piece of history!!! This rare version of the number 36 caliper rule was made by the Chapin-Stephens company that existed between 1901 to 1929, when the company and its patents were purchased by Stanley Works of New Britain Conn. THE C-S CO was a major player in the American tool-making industry from the beginning of the 20th century until the Great Depression. The company was created through the merger of two long-standing Connecticut tool makers: H. Chapin’s Son & Co. and L.C. Stephens & Co. the new company was based out of the existing factory of Herman Chapin in Pine Meadow (New Hartford) CT.The rule functions smoothly including the caliper and hinge, and it has a wildly oversized alignment pin. Some damage to the caliper is evident and displayed in the picture, but it does not appear to impact its movement. This rule appears to have been well used but has a wonderful patina and history! Condition: Used. Category: Collectibles › Tools, Hardware & Locks › Tools › Carpentry, Woodworking › Rules, Tapes. Brand: Stanley.
