Corning began production of Glass Christmas Tree ornaments after German Nazi U Boats were sinking merchant ships in the late 1930s--disrupting Trans-Atlantic Shipping. By 1938-1938 Christmas Ornaments were being produced by Corning. Prior to this, the Glassmaking centers of Germany were the primary source of glass ornaments. By the 1920s Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Japan were also producing ornaments. The delicate 2" glass ornaments in this box are marked Japan on the hangers. They have paint crackle and spotting.
