At 42 inches in length, this highly coveted size is significantly harder to find than common 24" or 30" variants, yet is far more manageable to display on a den wall, office mantle, or above a workbench than massive 48" models. This specific model features a solid, heavy un-bound mahogany wood stock, beautifully showcasing the natural rich wood grain along the top, bottom, and side edges. Heavy, thick brass plating is utilized strictly around the top horizontal spirit glass housings and the side plumb-sight viewing windows. The top brass plate is crisply stamped with the iconic Stratton Brothers eagle emblem and two historic production patent dates: "JULY 16, 1872" and "MAY 22, 1888." Left completely in its raw, untouched state, this level avoids any modern bright-polish "makeovers," preserving the rich golden-brown brass oxidation and warm wood finish that serious collectors value.
