Description

View Antique Stanley No. 1 Odd Jobs Combination Tool w/ Original Scribe 1887, 1888 with current marketplace pricing, condition, product images and item details. Its condition reflects well over a century of age and use, with plating loss, oxidation, scratches, discoloration, accumulated residue and general surface wear. The raised markings include “STANLEY No. 1 ODD JOBS,” together with the early patent dates of January 25, 1887 and September 11, 1888. Offered here is a fascinating and early antique Stanley No. 1 “Odd Jobs” combination tool—one of the most ingenious and unusual multipurpose tools Stanley ever produced. The raised markings include “STANLEY No. 1 ODD JOBS,” together with the early patent dates of January 25, 1887 and September 11, 1888.Introduced during the late 1880s, the Odd Jobs was essentially a remarkably versatile predecessor to the modern combination square. When properly equipped and configured, it could serve as a try square, miter square, T-square, marking gauge, mortise gauge, depth gauge, inside square, level/plumb and beam compass, among other layout and measuring functions. This example includes the cast Stanley body and its original multipurpose scribe/trammel attachment—the unusual pointed, T-shaped piece shown in the photographs. This small accessory is frequently missing. It could be used for marking and, in combination with the body and a suitable rule, for compass and gauging operations. Please note that this is an incomplete example. It does not include the original measuring rule, box, instructions or level vial. It is therefore being offered primarily as a collectible, restoration project, parts tool or display piece. Please examine all photographs carefully to determine exactly what is and is not included. The approximately 4 1/2-inch cast body retains clear and attractive raised lettering, both patent dates and a considerable amount of its old nickel-plated finish. Its condition reflects well over a century of age and use, with plating loss, oxidation, scratches, discoloration, accumulated residue and general surface wear. The principal casting appears substantially intact, and the surviving screws, sliding components and scribe attachment are shown from several angles.Even in incomplete condition, this remains a wonderfully distinctive piece of Stanley history. Its arrow-shaped body, highly textured casting, early patent markings and clever assortment of intended functions make it an appealing example for the Stanley collector, antique-tool enthusiast or restorer. Please rely upon the photographs as the most complete description of condition and contents. You will receive the exact Stanley No. 1 Odd Jobs tool and scribe attachment pictured.***********************************************FYI: Due to chronic illness, I am unfortunately being “forced” to sell my entire large collection of antique hand tools. Most items will be priced to sell rather quickly (hopefully!). I will be regularly posting new tools on a frequent basis (everything from hand planes—metal and wooden—to saws, spokeshaves, braces, bits galore, and many, MANY more. If you’ve been wanting or needing a certain tool, feel free to shoot me a quick message to see if I have one. Most questions are welcome. Just please understand I’m having to dig through three large storage units to find and post these tools. So the process of posting may (may not) be a little slow at the beginning. But rest assured, hundreds of “new” antique tools will be posted before too long. A relative few tools will be auctioned off, but I intend to sell most items as Buy It Now! And remember: virtually ALL of my Buy It Now’s will ALWAYS have the option of OBO (or best offer). So don’t hesitate to shoot me an offer. Thanks for reading, and don’t hesitate to shoot a question my way. All my best, Russ Condition: Used. Category: Collectibles › Tools, Hardware & Locks › Tools › Carpentry, Woodworking › Squares.
