Vintage Stanley G12-247 Block PlaneNear Mint ConditionMade In EnglandFresh from a local estate sale. Has 21 degree cutting angle and a 1-5/8" cutter and is 6-5/8" long. The exposed surfaces had a lacquer/wax substance that the factory put on to stop any rust. It stopped any rust, but created issues of its own. The plane has been used a bit, so that "wax" had gotten pretty ugly where the heat and movement of use had pushed it around. I have cleaned all but the faintest shadow of what was there. These shadows appear at the toe & heel on the sole and on one of the cheeks. The new owner may want to finish cleaning the shadows, which would bring this plane from a NM to an M in condition. It really is a beautiful little plane, as-is, though and would even make a great paperweight for the right desk. The blade has the factory grind and lacquer/wax coating, so is full length and rust free, but has been run over some debris that has chipped the cutting edge. Fact is, if a real micro bevel was created, then the chips would be gone. That pleasure will be up to the new owner, if they choose to do so. If you look at the picture of the back of the blade, you will see where the "wax" coating ends near the cutting edge.
