Saw Details. Rare Antique Henry Disston & Son Hand Saw (1865–1871) – One-Son Medallion, Split NutsOffering a rare Henry Disston & Son hand saw, manufactured between 1865 and 1871. This saw features the “Disston & Son” medallion—used exclusively during that brief window, according to the Disstonian Institute.Historical ContextIn 1865, Henry Disston’s eldest son, Hamilton, returned from service in the Union Army and officially joined the family business. The company name was updated to “Disston & Son”, and both the blade etch and medallion were revised to reflect this change. Hamilton, known as “Ham,” had apprenticed at the factory prior to the war and earned respect among workers through his service, volunteer firefighting, and hands-on leadership.Saw Details• Blade Length: 22½ inches (as is) by 5" tall• Teeth Per Inch (TPI): 5• Medallion: Rare “Disston & Son” one-son version• Fasteners: Split-style (spanner) nuts• Handle: Rich patina with a visible crack (see photos)Condition Note: The tip of the blade has a jagged break, likely from past useCollector’s InsightThis medallion was produced for only a short time before the keystone design was introduced. It’s not uncommon to find saws from this transitional period with mismatched etches and medallions, as older stock materials were still used. This example is particularly desirable for its authentic one-son medallion and early construction features.Saws from this era can bring well over $200 in pristine condition. This piece is priced to sell due to the broken tip—still a fantastic opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts of early American tools. ... Condition: Used.
