Though the Vans Sidestripe has since become the unmistakable—and instantly recognizable—hallmark of the Vans brand, back then it was just a random doodle drawn by founder Paul Van Doren. It even had a different name: the “jazz stripe.”Honoring the style that launched an icon, the Bandana Style 36 is made with sturdy canvas and suede uppers featuring a bandana skull print. This low top, lace-up shoe also includes re-enforced toe caps, supportive padded collars, and signature rubber waffle outsolesVan OriginsThe Van Doren family (James and Paul) establishes Vans in 1966 along with two other partners. They focus on designing sneakers and selling them directly to customers. The company develops an especially high-grip shoe, initially conceived as a boat shoe, that would hold the wearer firmly to a pitching deck. It turns out that the design was especially useful to the skateboarding community as well. Collaborating with a chemist, James Van Doren develops the rubber recipe used in the sole. A mechanical engineer by training, Mr. Doren also devised the sneakers characteristic tread pattern of diamonds interrupted by a band of tiny six-pointed stars at the ball of the foot. Together, rubber and tread made the sole clingy.Vans capitalizes on two emerging crazes in the 1970's, skateboarding and BMX. They begin to aggressively market their sneakers to skateboarders, which, after a rocky start, leads to booming success.Vans becomes the skateboarder sneaker of choice because of its great outsole characteristics. Skaters began to request various new designs, colours, patterns, and textures.Champion Blue Warm Up, Uniqlo Keith Haring x Tokyo Organ Zaka T Shirt, and Levi's 511 Gray Slim Fit Jeans not included in offer, but may be available in our store.
